Long before it became the backdrop for weddings and celebrations, The Van Dusen Mansion was built to impress. Constructed in 1892 for George Washington Van Dusen and his wife, Nancy, the mansion was originally designed as a reflection of both success and ambition. Mr. Van Dusen was an entrepreneur who founded one of Minnesota’s first and most successful grain firms in 1883, and his home reflected the prosperity of Minneapolis during that era. After Mr. Van Dusen passed away, the estate remained in the family for decades before eventually being sold in the 1940s, where it began serving a variety of commercial purposes over the years.

But perhaps the most incredible part of the mansion’s story is that it almost disappeared entirely. After years of neglect, the property was abandoned and, in 1994, a permit was issued to demolish the historic structure. Just two weeks before demolition was scheduled to begin, everything changed. An investor stepped in, purchased the property, and began an ambitious three-year restoration project that brought the mansion back to life. Through the work of architects, craftspeople, and countless hours of restoration, The Van Dusen Mansion was returned to its original grandeur and eventually earned recognition on the National Register of Historic Places.
