CHEERS TO 10 YEARS AT THE VAN DUSEN MANSION

Celebrating a Decade of Weddings, Memories, and Historic Charm

We’re so excited to share that the 2026 season officially marks Bellagala’s 10th year owning and operating The Van Dusen Mansion.

Over the last decade, this historic mansion has been the backdrop for thousands of celebrations, countless happy tears, unforgettable dance floors, and some of our favorite wedding day memories. And while so much has changed over the years, one thing hasn’t: couples still walk through these doors and instantly fall in love.

A Little History: The Story Behind The Mansion

Long before it became the backdrop for weddings and celebrations, The Van Dusen Mansion was built to impress. Constructed in 1892 for George Washington Van Dusen and his wife, Nancy, the mansion was originally designed as a reflection of both success and ambition. Mr. Van Dusen was an entrepreneur who founded one of Minnesota’s first and most successful grain firms in 1883, and his home reflected the prosperity of Minneapolis during that era. After Mr. Van Dusen passed away, the estate remained in the family for decades before eventually being sold in the 1940s, where it began serving a variety of commercial purposes over the years.

But perhaps the most incredible part of the mansion’s story is that it almost disappeared entirely. After years of neglect, the property was abandoned and, in 1994, a permit was issued to demolish the historic structure. Just two weeks before demolition was scheduled to begin, everything changed. An investor stepped in, purchased the property, and began an ambitious three-year restoration project that brought the mansion back to life. Through the work of architects, craftspeople, and countless hours of restoration, The Van Dusen Mansion was returned to its original grandeur and eventually earned recognition on the National Register of Historic Places.

Today, The Van Dusen Mansion stands as something truly unique: a historic property thoughtfully adapted for modern celebrations. More than 130 years after it was first built, this space continues doing exactly what it was designed to do: Impress people the moment they walk through the doors.

What The Van Dusen Mansion Means To Us

When people ask us how we describe Van Dusen Mansion, one word always comes to mind: Experiential.

The Van Dusen Mansion is our iconic historic venue, the place where every part of the day feels like stepping into something different. From the outside, it feels like something out of a fairytale. Inside, it feels sophisticated, luxurious, timeless, and full of character. What makes weddings here so unique is how couples and guests experience the space throughout the day. Wedding mornings begin in the mansion’s getting ready suites. Guests arrive and gather in either the courtyard or ballroom. Cocktail hour invites everyone into the mansion itself to explore its historic rooms and architecture. Dinner takes place in the ballroom. And then, just when you think you’ve seen everything… The celebration moves into the Carriage House for dancing. Every chapter of the wedding day unfolds somewhere new. And that experience is part of what makes this venue so special.
